Description of the 2023 Canada 1 oz Silver $20 Snowflake - 24h Shipping!

The Royal Canadian Mint has introduced a new series of coins, returning to the popular snowflake motif. They were last seen in the Snowflake collection from 2018.

This time, it is the first hexagonal silver coin produced by the Mint. Its shape perfectly complements the engraved snowflake on the reverse. The coin is made from 1 ounce of 999 fine silver. A limited mintage of 8,500 pieces makes it a treat for collectors worldwide. The coin is packaged in a new, innovative case, which also includes a certificate of authenticity.

Appearance of the 2023 Canada 1 oz Silver $20 Snowflake - 24h Shipping!

The reverse of the coin features a snow crystal. It shimmers in the light, an effect similar to the sparkling of snowflakes when reflecting sunlight. Upon closer inspection, each of the fern-like "branches" is slightly different, reflecting the natural variations in shapes found in nature. The transparent crystal in the center adds a touch of winter sparkle and luxury to the entire composition.

The obverse features the image of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The design also includes a special mark containing four pearls symbolizing the four portraits of the Queen that adorned Canadian coins throughout her reign, as well as the dates of her rule.

Historical Background

The shape of a snowflake is largely determined by atmospheric conditions, particularly temperature and humidity. The arms of snow crystals appear symmetrical because they form in similar environmental conditions. However, slight changes in temperature and humidity cause each arm to be slightly different, which helps explain why no two snowflakes are exactly alike.

Manufacturer

With Canada's growing independence from the United Kingdom, the need for minting its own coins also increased. Therefore, in 1908, the Royal Canadian Mint was established and has since become one of the most important mints in the world. However, to this day, all coins from the Royal Canadian Mint bear the portrait of the reigning British monarch.

The Mint's shares are held in trust for the Crown of Canada.

The Mint produces all Canadian circulation coins and is involved in designing and manufacturing collector coins from precious metals - gold, silver, palladium, and platinum bullion coins, medals, as well as medallions and tokens. It also offers gold and silver refining services.

Today, the Royal Canadian Mint sets standards in the field of minting technology and numismatic design, attesting to its position and reputation.
