Historical Background
The tradition of bringing a Christmas tree into the home came to Poland from Germany only at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. In the Old Polish Encyclopedia, Zygmunt Gloger wrote: “During the so-called Prussian times, i.e., in the years 1795–1806, the custom of dressing a pine or fir tree with nuts, candies, apples, and numerous wax candles for children on Christmas Eve was adopted in Warsaw from the Germans.” The first blown glass baubles also resembled apples and nuts. In earlier years, the Christmas Eve dinner was accompanied by fir branches or just their tops. Interestingly, Christmas trees were initially hung upside down from the ceiling.
Minions (from the English minion – to serve) are small yellow creatures. They first appeared in the movie “Despicable Me,” and several other animated films featuring them as the main characters followed. Fun facts about Minions:
1. The language spoken by Minions is a mix of different languages, for example, they count to three in Korean (hana, dul, sae). They love to say the English word “banana” and “Дa” (da – “yes” in Russian).
2. Minions originate from the Cretaceous period and even then desired to serve evil.
3. There are 48 differently looking Minions. They differ in hairstyles, height, and the number of eyes. However, they are all exactly the same color.
4. Initially, Minions were supposed to be huge and similar to Orcs.
5. The largest number of Minions shown at once is 10,400. A fan counted them on the poster for the movie “Minions: The Rise of Gru.”
