Description of the 1/10 oz Australian Lunar Year of the Dragon 2024 Gold Coin - Shipping 24h!
This is the fifth time that the Australian mint, The Perth Mint, proudly releases the Lunar III series of gold coins. In recent years, coins referring to the ancient Chinese calendar have appeared. These were, in order: Year of the Mouse 2020, Year of the Ox 2021, Year of the Tiger 2022, and Year of the Rabbit 2023. The Chinese New Year falls on February 10, 2024. According to the horoscope, the Year of the Water Rabbit will end then, and the Year of the Wood Dragon will begin, lasting until January 29, 2025. The Chinese calendar includes 12 animals. Besides the dragon, these are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.
The richly decorated coin is a legal tender. Each bullion coin is presented in a protective acrylic capsule.

The reverse of the gold coin features an engraved, majestic dragon. It is depicted against a background of mists and stylized waves at the bottom. You can also find the Chinese character for dragon and the inscription DRAGON 2024. The P125 mint mark signifies the 125th anniversary of The Perth Mint.
The obverse shows a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and is complemented by the period of her reign (1952-2022), as well as the weight, purity, and denomination. It was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.
Historical Background
The Wood Dragon is one of the 12 animals in the lunar-solar Chinese calendar. These animals belong to the 5 elements, which are wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. The upcoming year 2024 belongs to the Wood Dragon. This sign characterizes intelligent and creative people, yet distinguished by delicacy and persistence. When hurt, they lose their optimistic attitude. The previous year of the Wood Dragon was celebrated 60 years earlier - in 1964. Famous people born then include: Keanu Reeves, Russell Crowe, Lenny Kravitz, and Sandra Bullock.
