The obverse contains the image of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
Historical Background
The Purple Coneflower is a flower beloved by Canadian gardeners. It is not only quite easy to maintain but also attracts wonderful butterflies!
The Eastern Tailed Blue Butterfly, also seen on the coin, is a delicate and charming butterfly commonly found in Canada. It is one of the smallest but also one of the most beautiful butterflies found in this country. This tiny winged resident enriches Canadian ecosystems with its subtle appearance and unique color scheme. The butterfly has small wings in shades of blue, which give it delicacy and elegance. Its wings are adorned with characteristic tails, which are extensions of the hind wings and give it extraordinary charm. It is a species that can often be found in various environments, from meadows and gardens to coastal areas. Its presence adds a colorful accent to Canadian landscapes and is an important element of biodiversity. As a symbol of delicacy and harmony, this butterfly is one of the many treasures of Canada's nature.
Manufacturer
With Canada's growing independence from Great Britain, the need for minting its own coins also increased. Therefore, in 1908, the Royal Canadian Mint was established and has since become one of the most important mints in the world. To this day, all coins from the Royal Canadian Mint bear the portrait of the reigning British monarch.
The Mint's shares are held in trust for the Crown of Canada.
The Mint produces all Canadian circulation coins and is involved in designing and manufacturing collector coins from precious metals - gold, silver, palladium, and platinum bullion coins, medals, as well as medallions and tokens. It also offers gold and silver refining services.
Today, the Royal Canadian Mint sets standards in minting technology and numismatic design, reflecting its position and reputation.
