Appearance of the 2025 1 Gram Chinese Gold Panda Bullion Coin - Shipping 24!

The reverse features two pandas - a mother with her young. Interestingly, this mother was depicted as a young panda on the coin in 2019. The adorable pandas are in their natural environment. The reverse also includes information about the weight, purity of the metal, and the nominal value expressed in yuan.

The obverse of the coin features the Temple of Heaven – Tian Tan, which consists of a complex of Taoist religious buildings located in the Central Park in Beijing. During annual ceremonies, prayers were offered there to Heaven for successful harvests. This complex was visited by the emperors of China from the historical Ming and Qing dynasties. The temple was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998. It is surrounded by the inscription People's Republic of China and the year of issue – 2024.

Historical Background

The giant panda inhabits the mountain ranges located in the provinces of Sichuan, Gansu, and Shaanxi in the People's Republic of China. The climate in which it lives is cold and humid. Bamboo thickets, protected by tall trees, serve as both a hiding place and, most importantly, a food source for the panda. The relationships between adult pandas and their young are characterized by the mother's protective and nurturing instincts, which are essential for the survival of the defenseless young. While giant pandas are generally solitary animals, maternal care is provided in the early stages of life. Unfortunately, these bears, which are the national animal of China, are endangered due to the reduction of their habitats. This is due to deforestation related to industrial development and the expansion of residential areas. Additionally, pandas have a low reproductive rate among females, which is another important aspect of the need to protect this species.

Gold Panda coins are minted annually in several mints, including those in Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Shenyang. Unlike other mints, these Chinese mints do not use mint marks. Instead, to distinguish one mint from another, they are known for minor differences in the coin's design, such as font size, the length of visible bamboo, and temple designs in certain years.

Manufacturer

China Gold Coin Incorporation was established in 1987 with the approval of the State Council of China and has since been the only company involved in minting commemorative coins from precious metals, directly associated with the People's Bank of China. It is also a significant entity in the currency issuance process by the Central Bank of China. Initially, CGCI operated mainly within the country, building its distribution networks, and later entered foreign markets, collaborating with mints and banks in Asia, America, and Europe. With a base in Hong Kong, it expanded its operations to additional areas in Beijing (Beijing Kaiyuan China Gold Coin Trade Center), Shenzhen (Shenzhen Trade Center), and Shanghai (Shanghai Gold Coin Investment Co., Ltd.), as well as many external distributors operating on a franchise basis. One of the most well-known series of bullion coins produced by China Gold Coin Corp is undoubtedly the Chinese Panda, which has been presented annually with a new design since 1982.
