Description of the Poland 10 Zloty 2003 Silver Proof Coin – Polish Kings and Princes: Stanisław Leszczyński

The numismatic item was introduced into circulation in 2003, aiming to commemorate one of the most extraordinary figures in Polish history – Stanisław Leszczyński, King of Poland and Duke of Lorraine. The piece is not only a historical memento but also a beautiful example of Polish numismatic craftsmanship, combining tradition with a modern form. It is particularly valued by collectors who seek coins related to significant events in Polish history, as well as by those interested in the figure of the ruler who, for many years, was a symbol of Poland's turbulent history, both on and off the throne.

Appearance of the Poland 10 Zloty 2003 Silver Proof Coin – Polish Kings and Princes: Stanisław Leszczyński

The silver collector's coin with a denomination of 10 zloty stands out for its exquisite craftsmanship and refined artistic composition. Its reverse features Stanisław Leszczyński, depicted in a half-figure, in an elegant outfit with a crown and royal insignia, emphasizing his majesty. In the background, there is a bust of his daughter Maria, Queen of France. Surrounding the main motif is the inscription STANISŁAW LESZCZYŃSKI, along with the dates of his reign, recalling his turbulent yet significant role in the history of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The obverse features the Polish coat of arms, along with the denomination and year of issue. The design by Ewa Tyc-Karpińska impresses with a subtle combination of mirror finish and delicate matting, which perfectly highlights the details and gives the coin elegance and artistic depth.

Historical Background

The coin was issued by the National Bank of Poland in 2003 as part of the series Polish Kings and Princes. The purpose of this series was to commemorate the most important figures in Polish history who had a significant impact on the fate of the country, both in royal and princely times.

Stanisław Leszczyński, born in 1677, was a figure full of controversy and drama. Twice crowned King of Poland, first from 1704–1709 and then from 1733–1736, Leszczyński is the only Polish ruler who did not come from royal families. His reign was associated with a difficult period in Polish history, marked by power struggles between various political factions, affecting the country's stability. After abdicating the Polish throne, Leszczyński settled in France, where as Duke of Lorraine, he played an important role in local politics. He also became the father-in-law of Louis XV, which significantly influenced his life and future.

The numismatic item is a tribute to a figure who, despite the difficult political situation and numerous upheavals, remains one of the more important rulers of Poland and is also a symbol of the turbulent history of our country.
