The 10 zł collector coin, issued by the National Bank of Poland on November 4, 2011, commemorates Ferdynand Antoni Ossendowski – one of the most outstanding Polish travelers, explorers, and writers of the 20th century. It is the tenth issue in the series "Polish Travelers and Explorers," aimed at celebrating the works and achievements of prominent figures in Polish science and literature.
Obverse: Image of the Eagle and Travel Symbolism
The obverse of the coin features the eagle established for the emblem of the Republic of Poland. Below the eagle are stylized images of two old cars, symbolizing travel and exploration. Beneath them is the facsimile signature of Ferdynand Ossendowski and the inscription "10 ZŁ". On the left side, there is a stylized fragment of a compass rose, and on the right, the year of issue "2011". Below the eagle, on the right side, is the mint mark "MW".
Reverse: Portrait of Ferdynand Ossendowski
The reverse of the coin shows a stylized image of Ferdynand Ossendowski against the outline of his shadow and a fragment of a globe marked with a network of meridians and parallels. On the right side is the inscription "1876/1945", and below are stylized images of books. At the top, in a semicircle, is the inscription "FERDYNAND OSSENDOWSKI".
