Historical Background
The issuance of the coin was an expression of recognition for Karol Szymanowski's contribution to the development of music and national culture. It was issued by the National Bank of Poland on the 125th anniversary of the artist's birth, one of the most outstanding Polish composers of the 20th century.
Karol Szymanowski was born on October 3, 1882, in Tymoszówka, in today's Ukraine, into a Polish noble family. From an early age, he showed exceptional musical talent, which he developed first in Elizavetgrad and then in Warsaw under the guidance of eminent teachers, including Zygmunt Noskowski and Mieczysław Karłowicz. He was one of the leading representatives of Young Poland in music, alongside creators such as Fitelberg and Różycki. In his work, he combined elements of folklore with modern European and oriental influences, creating works with a unique sound. His most important compositions include the opera "King Roger," the ballet "Harnasie," and "Sinfonia Concertante." He died on March 29, 1937, in Lausanne, leaving behind a legacy that has become a permanent part of Polish and world music history.
