The coin with a denomination of 20 zlotys, issued by the National Bank of Poland in 2006, is part of the Polish Ritual Year series. It commemorates Midsummer Night, one of the oldest and most picturesque folk festivals in Poland, celebrated on the night of June 23rd to 24th. Its roots go back to ancient Slavic beliefs and are associated with the summer solstice. The tradition of this night combines pagan and Christian elements, and its celebrations aimed to honor the forces of nature and symbolically purify through fire. The coin was minted in silver with a mintage of 65,000 pieces. It is not only a valuable numismatic item but also a unique keepsake that nurtures the heritage of Polish folk culture, eagerly sought after by collectors.
The silver coin, impressive in its form and symbolism. Beautifully crafted details are highlighted by a mirror stamp, bringing out the depth and precision of artistic craftsmanship in every element. The reverse design of the coin transports to the fairy-tale world of Midsummer Night. Its main element is a colorful fern flower, a symbol of mystery and dreams, whose color changes depending on the angle, adding a magical character to the composition. In the background, small figures of gnomes can be seen, and below, the semicircular inscription NOC ŚWIĘTOJAŃSKA. The whole is surrounded by an intricately crafted relief, inspired by folk motifs related to ancient summer solstice rituals.
The central part of the obverse features a dynamic scene depicting youth joyfully dancing around a bonfire. The composition is complemented by a decorative plant motif, which forms an ornamental frame reminiscent of the richness of Polish folk tradition. It also includes the emblem of the Republic of Poland, as well as the date of issue and denomination. This exceptional coin is not only a numismatic gem but also an artistic story about one of the most beautiful and mysterious Polish traditions.

Over time, under the influence of Christianization, these celebrations were linked to the eve of St. John the Baptist, aiming to assimilate old traditions with the new religion. In folk tradition, Midsummer Night was a time of magical rituals intended to ensure fertility and protection against evil forces. Bonfires were lit, people jumped over them, and girls threw wreaths into the water, symbolizing the search for a future spouse. Today, Midsummer Night is celebrated in many regions of Poland, especially in Krakow, where concerts, festivals, and traditional rituals are organized by the Vistula River.
