Description of the Polish Painter Piotr Michałowski Silver Coin

This ninth collector's coin comes from the Polish Painters of the 19th and 20th Centuries series, which aims to present the life and work of the most outstanding Polish artists active at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Its issuance was intended to honor the memory of the Polish painter and prominent representative of Romanticism, Piotr Michałowski.

Appearance of the Polish Painter Piotr Michałowski Silver Coin

Along the left edge of the coin, at the top, there is an inscription: 1800-1855, indicating the years of Michałowski's life. On the left side of the coin, against the background of a landscape from Sieniawa, according to Piotr Michałowski's watercolor, there is a stylized image of the artist's bust. Along the bottom edge of the coin, on a separate plane, there is the inscription: Piotr Michałowski. On the right side, at the bottom, there is an image of a palette and three brushes, with paints on the palette: red, yellow, green, and blue. On the obverse of the coin, there is a stylized image of Michałowski's watercolor: Stablemen with Horses and a Dog, depicting a scene with horse riding. At the bottom, on the right side, there is an image of an eagle, the emblem of the Republic of Poland. It is surrounded by the inscription RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA, the denomination of 20 zł, and the year of issue: 2012. Below the eagle, on the right side, there is the mint mark: MW.

Piotr Michałowski is one of the most important figures in the history of 19th-century Polish painting. Born in 1800 in the territories of today's Ukraine, he quickly gained recognition as an outstanding artist. His paintings, often done in oil, were characterized by vitality and dynamism, capturing the life and atmosphere of the depicted scenes. Specializing mainly in portraits and genre scenes, Michałowski earned a reputation as a master in conveying human emotions and characters. He studied in Warsaw and Paris, where he became acquainted with new trends in contemporary art, which resulted in the development of his own unique style. The artist's works were not only valued for their artistic merit but also for their deep reflection of Polish cultural and historical heritage. Despite his relatively short life, Michałowski left behind a rich artistic legacy that continues to inspire and fascinate art lovers to this day.
