The Silver coin from the Discovering Dinosaurs series – Reaper of Death is another extraordinary product from The Royal Canadian Mint. It is made of the highest grade silver and has additional value due to black rhodium plating. The weight of the silver coin is one ounce. The product was issued in a mintage of 7,500 pieces. Its appearance is credited to Julius Csotonyi.
Thanatotheristes degrootorum, which means "reaper of death," is a dinosaur that once inhabited the territories of Canada. This individual is considered the oldest among tyrannosaurs.
The reverse of the silver coin depicts the fossilized skull of the Reaper of Death. Around the likeness of the individual, information about the face value and year of minting is stamped, and the issuing country is indicated. The reverse also features the inscription: Thanatotheristes degrootorum and the designer's initials (JC).
The obverse of the silver coin depicts the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The surrounding rim bears the inscription: Elizabeth II D.G. REGINA.
