Historical Background
Karol Szymanowski was born in 1882 into a Polish aristocratic family residing in the Dnieper region of Ukraine. He is now recognized worldwide as the most outstanding Polish composer after the renowned Fryderyk Chopin.
Szymanowski showed musical talent from the age of 7. His initial lessons were at home with his father. At the age of 10, Szymanowski began taking lessons from professional music teachers. His first teacher already noticed Szymanowski's great compositional talent. He continued his education in Warsaw and Berlin.
After World War I, Karol Szymanowski was initially associated with Bydgoszcz. He then moved to Warsaw, where, thanks to his outstanding talent, he gained fame and began working as the rector of the Warsaw Conservatory of Music. He spent the end of his life in Zakopane, where he treated the tuberculosis that plagued him throughout his life.
He died at the age of 55 in Lausanne, during one of his therapeutic trips to a local sanatorium. The virtuoso was buried in Krakow.
