The Perth Mint of Australia first drew lunar inspirations from the Chinese calendar in 1996, when the first Lunar series was launched. It enjoyed extraordinary popularity, resulting in two subsequent series.
We present the 2015 gold coin from the Lunar II series. It was marked by the sign of the goat, whose dignified image is featured on the reverse.
The Lunar series are bullion coins available in various weight versions, thus catering to different investment possibilities. Due to its long-standing tradition and the nature of the collection, presenting a new edition each year, it is also very popular among collectors.
The reverse of the coin depicts an adult goat standing majestically on a ridge, against the backdrop of other mountain peaks. As usual with the Lunar collection, the Chinese symbol representing the animal, in this case, "goat," is included, as well as the letter "P," which is the symbol of the Perth Mint. At the bottom, the inscription "Year of the Goat" is stamped.
The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, created by artist Ian Rank-Broadley. Surrounding the figure are the inscriptions: "ELIZABETH II" and "AUSTRALIA," as well as the weight, gold purity, face value of the coin, and year of issue.
