COIN DESCRIPTION

We present the 2016 gold bullion coin, the Year of the Monkey according to the Chinese calendar. It is one of the offerings from the Lunar II series issued between 2008-2019 by the Australian mint, The Perth Mint.

The coin is made of pure gold of the highest fineness, weighing half an ounce. The matte finish of the background adds a special shine to the main elements of the coin, namely the image of the monkey on the reverse and the portrait of the Queen on the obverse.

It is not only an option for investors – subsequent editions of the Lunar series are known and appreciated worldwide – but also for collectors fascinated by Chinese culture.

It will also be an interesting gift for those born in 2016, the Year of the Monkey, or those who celebrated important occasions such as a wedding that year.

COIN APPEARANCE

The reverse of the coin depicts a monkey sitting on a peach tree branch. The choice of this tree is not accidental – the peach is a symbol of longevity and immortality. The animal is looking at the fruit and also towards the Chinese character for "monkey." The reverse also features the characteristic "P" mark of the Australian mint and the inscription "Year of the Monkey."

The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. It is a design by Ian Rank-Broadley. Around the figure, the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA," as well as information about the fineness, weight, year of minting, and nominal value of the coin are inscribed.
