Description of the 2020 Montserrat 1 oz Gold Oriole BU - 24h Shipping!
The 2020 Montserrat Oriole is the fifth coin in the EC8 series. This 1 oz gold coin is issued by the island of Montserrat and is one of eight released each year in this historic collection. The series began in 2018. The EC8 (Eastern Caribbean Bank) program consists of four coins minted each year on behalf of each of the following eight Caribbean representatives: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Coins produced and distributed by Scottsdale Mint are legal tender in the territories of these eight countries that form the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.
Appearance of the 2020 Montserrat 1 oz Gold Oriole BU - 24h Shipping!
The reverse features an oriole sitting on a branch, with the active Soufrière Hills volcano visible in the distance.
The obverse features the image of Queen Elizabeth II, with the weight of the coin and gold purity below. Both the obverse and reverse of the coin feature wavy and radiant lines, making the coins more difficult to duplicate and counterfeit, providing greater security for the investor.
Historical Background
The island of Montserrat is located in the Lesser Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean Sea. It is a British overseas territory, nicknamed the "Emerald Isle of the Caribbean" due to its resemblance to coastal Ireland and the Irish heritage of many of its inhabitants (prisoners, slaves, indentured laborers, and loyal opposition soldiers) who began arriving on the island around 1632. The national bird of Montserrat is the endangered oriole, which is featured on this coin. Montserrat is a volcanic island, and since 1995, the Soufriere Hills volcano has become active again. This led to the evacuation of nearly two-thirds of the island's population and increased the threat to the oriole. The island is also prone to frequent hurricanes and earthquakes.
Scottsdale Mint
This is a relatively young mint, established in 2009 and located in Arizona, USA. Scottsdale Mint is one of the few mints in the world that is not government-owned and remains in private hands. It produces gold and silver coins and bars that are legal tender. Its owner is Josh Phair. The mint collaborates with many countries, creating unique and innovative products, often in limited series.
