Diamonds are the most valuable gemstones. Despite this, they complement the collections not only of the wealthiest, but also of all those who want to choose a safe investment product that protects capital perfectly, including in times of inflation. The uniqueness of diamonds and their growing popularity stems largely from the individuality of every single stone. Only an experienced cutter can give gemstones an exceptional shape so that light, almost magically, penetrates their interiors and reflects off the walls. Diamonds are famous for this play of light; when cut with the appropriate number of facets they are called brilliants.
As investment products, these stones are a safe store of value for many years. Diamonds are timeless and transnational, but their greatest advantage is mobility—diamond rings can sometimes be worth as much as a single-family home, yet you can slip them into a pocket and move freely around the world with your wealth at hand. The mission of Mennica Skarbowa is therefore to have them complement the investment portfolios of Poles, becoming—alongside precious metals—the best possible way to diversify and secure one’s assets!
Diamond, the hardest of gemstones
The uniqueness of diamonds comes from their extraordinary, almost delicate appearance. This delicacy, however, has nothing to do with durability: diamonds are considered the hardest naturally occurring mineral (10 on the Mohs scale). Diamonds are made of carbon atoms and formed billions of years ago under high pressure and immense temperatures. It is therefore difficult to find two identical stones, especially since their final shape is given by trained cutters. Thanks to them, today the market is filled not only with jewelry diamonds, but also with investment diamonds available to everyone!
Colored and colorless diamonds
At first glance, diamonds may differ in cut and size. It is also worth paying attention to color. Among investment diamonds, one can distinguish colored diamonds and colorless diamonds. For the latter, a scale ranging from D to Z is used, where letters D–F indicate colorless diamonds; letters G–J indicate near-colorless diamonds; letters K–M describe faintly tinted diamonds; and letters N–Z yellowish diamonds. As for colored gemstones, according to the Fancy Color Research Foundation they constitute a smaller share of the market. Their popularity is growing, however, due to their beautiful appearance. Colored diamonds can be green, red, purple, blue, or yellow, of course retaining their brilliance!
Types of investment diamonds – the 4C rule
When purchasing investment diamonds, follow the 4C rule, which refers to four important physical parameters of a given diamond! These are:
1. Color – the most important parameter when assessing the value of colorless diamonds and diamonds with fancy colors.

2. Carat – the carat defines diamond weight, i.e., 1 carat (ct) is 0.2 grams. Among popular investment diamonds, common weights include: .18; .25; .50; .75; 1.00; 2.00; 2.50; and 2.99.
3. Clarity – diamonds may contain small imperfections, and their level is defined by a clarity scale. Stones almost free from inclusions are called “Internally Flawless” (IF). Those with large inclusions are described as “Imperfect” (P1, P2, P3).

4. Cut – meaning the diamond’s proportions, symmetry, and polish. It does not refer to shape, but to how the diamond interacts with light falling on its surface!

In addition, the diamond’s shape itself is important. More intricate forms are reserved for the jewelry industry, but it is worth noting the following frequently seen diamond shapes: brilliant (the most popular shape), pear, oval, marquise, triangle, princess, baguette, cushion, asscher, octagon, emerald, and heart.
Monte Carlo Diam investment diamonds
The investment diamonds that make up Mennica Skarbowa’s diamond portfolio come from a globally recognized entity: Monte Carlo Diam, a company that holds all required licenses for trading colorless diamonds and for the wholesale distribution of colored diamonds. Cooperation with this supplier guarantees the authenticity of the gemstones!
A few words about Monte Carlo Diam
Monte Carlo Diam was established on July 16, 2013. From the outset, it has maintained offices at the headquarters of the Antwerpsche Diamantkring. The company stands out thanks to its backing of diamond designers and manufacturers in Belgium, the United Kingdom, Poland, and France. It is also one of the main suppliers of colored diamonds to the markets of Eastern Europe. Monte Carlo Diam has personal ties with Poles!
Authenticity of investment diamonds
Monte Carlo Diam ensures the authenticity of both colorless and colored diamonds by working with certified institutions. They issue for each stone an individual certificate with a unique number and a precise description of the stone’s parameters. Oversight is also provided by the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB), of which our business partner Monte Carlo Diam is a member. As for certification centers, the following institutions should be mentioned: Gemological Institute of America (GIA), International Gemological Institute (IGI) – the most popular in Europe, and HRD Antwerp – Hoge Raad voor Diamant (HRD).
Stable value of investment diamonds
The value of investment diamonds is stable and continues to grow. It is no surprise that these gemstones are popular with investors today. It should be emphasized that diamond prices generally start at around 1,500 PLN, while the most expensive investment-grade products cost even tens of thousands of zlotys. Diamond value is determined primarily by the 4C parameters. In addition, the recognized Rapaport Price List operates in the market—a wholesale price list for colorless diamonds published every Thursday. It is produced by the Rapaport Group, operating in 118 countries and bringing together over 20,000 clients!
Why invest in diamonds?
Diamonds have recorded a significant increase in value since the beginning of the economic crisis and surging inflation indicators in global economies. Investing in them offers stability, but is appreciated above all for ease of transport and mobility. This makes them a practical asset in situations where moving wealth is necessary. Buying diamonds is therefore an excellent way to expand your investment portfolio and protect capital in unstable times. Investing in gemstones is an ideal alternative to purchasing investment gold and silver. Diamonds are also worth treating as a complement to your precious metal collections!
