Description of the Silver Coin Allegory of Freedom 2024
The $50 Allegory of Freedom coin is a unique masterpiece in any collection. It pays tribute to the enduring spirit of heroism and hope upheld by Canadians. Inspired by the allegorical figure from the National War Memorial in Ottawa, this coin honors generations of Canadians who have fought for freedom and continue to defend it today. A distinctive feature of the coin is the three-dimensional golden-colored Freedom figurine. The coin is the perfect complement to the 2023 Allegory of Peace coin, as both were inspired by the two allegorical figures found atop the National War Memorial in Ottawa. Coin weight 143.07 g (outer ring 104.63 g and inner part 38.44 g).
Appearance of the Silver Coin Allegory of Freedom 2024
The silver coin features a double-sided 3D figurine at its center, cast entirely from 99.99% pure silver. It depicts the figure of Freedom, a woman seated on a mythical bird, shown in flight. In her hand, she holds a torch, illuminating the path. Visible on both the obverse and reverse of the coin, it is gold-plated and symbolizes hope, guidance, and optimism. The obverse features the effigy of King Charles III by Steven Rosati. Additionally, the coin is adorned on both sides, along the outer edge, with scrolls, olive branches, and maple leaves, symbolizing Canada's contribution to global peace and freedom. The coin design is by Rebeka Yanovskaya.
Historical Background
The coin is inspired by the National War Memorial in Ottawa. It is a powerful symbol of the courage and hope demonstrated by generations of Canadians who fought for freedom. This memorial inspired the creation of the 2024 Allegory, which, in addition to its historical theme, also represents the latest achievements in innovation. It is a continuation of the 2023 Allegory of Peace. This coin, limited to just 1,400 pieces worldwide, is not only a tribute to freedom but also a collectible masterpiece of modern craftsmanship from the Royal Canadian Mint.
Manufacturer
With Canada's growing independence from Great Britain, the need to mint its own coins also increased. Therefore, in 1908, the Royal Canadian Mint was established and has since become one of the most important mints in the world. To this day, all coins from the Royal Canadian Mint bear the portrait of the reigning British monarch.
The Mint's shares are held in trust for the Crown of Canada.
The Mint produces all Canadian circulation coins and is involved in designing and crafting collectible coins made of precious metals—gold, silver, palladium, and platinum bullion coins, medals, as well as medallions and tokens. It also offers gold and silver refining services.
Today, the Royal Canadian Mint sets standards in minting technology and numismatic design, reflecting its status and reputation.
