Diamonds are the most precious gemstones. Despite this, they not only complement the collections of the wealthiest but also of all those who want to choose a safe investment product that excellently protects capital, e.g., in times of inflation. The uniqueness of diamonds and their growing popularity result largely from the uniqueness of each individual specimen. Only an experienced cutter can give gemstones a special shape so that light, in an almost magical way, enters their interiors and reflects off the walls. It is for these beams full of reflections that diamonds are famous; when cut with the appropriate number of facets they are called brilliants.

As investment products, these stones represent a safe store of value for many years. Diamonds are timeless and transnational, but their most important advantage is their mobility—diamond rings sometimes reach the value of a single-family house, yet you can put them in your pocket and move freely around the world with your wealth at hand. The mission of Mennica Skarbowa is therefore that they complement the investment portfolios of Poles, becoming alongside precious metals the best possible way to diversify and secure one’s resources!

Diamond, the hardest of gemstones

The exceptional nature of diamonds stems from their extraordinary, almost delicate appearance. This delicacy, however, has nothing to do with the durability of these gemstones, which are recognized as the hardest minerals found in nature (10 on the Mohs scale). Diamonds are made of carbon atoms and formed billions of years ago under high pressure and immense temperatures. It is therefore hard to find two identical specimens, especially since their final shape is given by trained cutters. Thanks to them, today the market is filled not only with jewelry diamonds but also with investment diamonds available to everyone!

Colored and colorless diamonds

At first glance, diamonds can differ in cut and size. It is also worth paying attention to color. Among investment diamonds, we can distinguish: colored diamonds and colorless diamonds. For the latter, the scale with markings from D to Z is used, where letters D–F indicate colorless diamonds; letters G–J denote near-colorless diamonds; letters K–M describe faintly tinted diamonds; and letters N–Z yellowish diamonds. As for colored gemstones, according to the Fancy Color Research Foundation they make up a smaller part of the market. However, their popularity is growing due to their beautiful appearance. Colored diamonds take on shades of green, red, purple, blue, or yellow, of course retaining their brilliance!

Types of investment diamonds – the 4C rule

When purchasing investment diamonds, you should follow the 4C rule, which refers to four important physical parameters of a given diamond! Namely:

1. Color (Colour) – the most important parameter when assessing the value of colorless diamonds and fancy-colored diamonds.

2. Weight (Carat) – a diamond’s carat denotes its mass, i.e., 1 carat (ct) is 0.2 grams. Among popular investment diamonds, you can find stones with designations: .18; .25; .50; .75; 1.00; 2.00; 2.50; as well as 2.99.

3. Clarity – diamonds may contain small imperfections, and their level is defined by a clarity scale. Stones almost free from blemishes are called “Internally Flawless” (IF). Those with large flaws are termed “Imperfect” (P1, P2, P3).

4. Cut – this refers to the diamond’s proportions, symmetry, and polish. It is therefore not a parameter relating to shape, but to how the diamond interacts with light falling on its surface!

In addition, an important parameter of investment diamonds is the shape itself. More elaborate forms are reserved for the jewelry industry, but it is worth highlighting the following—often encountered—diamond shapes: brilliant (the most popular shape), pear, oval, marquise, triangle, princess, baguette, cushion, asscher, octagon, emerald, and heart

Monte Carlo Diam investment diamonds

The investment diamonds forming Mennica Skarbowa’s diamond portfolio come from a globally recognized entity: Monte Carlo Diam, which holds all the necessary licenses to trade in colorless diamonds and to distribute colored diamonds wholesale. Cooperation with this diamond supplier is a guarantee of gemstone authenticity!

A few words about Monte Carlo Diam

Monte Carlo Diam is a company established on July 16, 2013. Since the beginning of its operations, it has had offices at the headquarters of the Antwerpsche Diamantkring. The company stands out with a base of diamond designers and manufacturers in Belgium, the United Kingdom, Poland, and France. It is also one of the main suppliers of colored diamonds to Eastern European markets. Monte Carlo Diam is personally connected with Poles!

Authenticity of investment diamonds

Monte Carlo Diam ensures the authenticity of colorless and colored diamonds by working with certified institutions. They issue for each specimen an individual certificate with a unique number and a precise description of the stone’s parameters. Everything is also overseen by the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB), of which our business partner Monte Carlo Diam is a member. As for certification centers, the following should be highlighted: Gemological Institute of America (GIA), International Gemological Institute (IGI) – the most popular in Europe, HRD Antwerp – Hoge Raad voor Diamant (HRD).

Stable value of investment diamonds

The value of investment diamonds is stable and continues to grow. No wonder these gemstones are eagerly chosen by investors today. It should be emphasized that diamond prices generally start at around 1,500 PLN, while the most expensive investment-grade products cost even several tens of thousands of PLN. The value of diamonds is primarily determined by the 4C parameters. In addition, the industry-recognized Rapaport Price List, a wholesale price list for colorless diamonds, is published every Thursday. It is created by the Rapaport Group, operating in 118 countries and bringing together over 20,000 clients!

Why invest in diamonds?

Diamonds have recorded a significant increase in value since the beginning of the economic crisis and soaring inflation indicators in global economies. Investing in them guarantees stability, but above all is appreciated by investors for their ease of transport and mobility. This makes them a practical asset in situations where it is necessary to move wealth. Buying diamonds is therefore an excellent way to expand your investment portfolio and protect capital in unstable times. Investing in gemstones is an ideal alternative to purchasing investment gold and silver. Diamonds are also worth treating as a complement to your collections of precious metals!
